The Explorer comes with either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive and a 10-speed automatic transmission. Most models feature a turbo-four that gets 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The top trim gets a V6 that delivers 400 hp and 410 pound-feet of torque. It gets you to 60 miles per hour in just over 5 seconds.

Both powertrains of this capable SUV can tow up to 5,000 pounds. The standard Class III Towing Package includes a trailer sway control system, trailer wiring harness, and hitch.

Cabin Design and Features

The redesigned Explorer offers updated interior color schemes and upgraded available features such as massaging front seats. It comes with a standard power liftgate for easy cargo access to almost 88 cubic feet of total space, as well as standard roof rack side rails. The Explorer has just over 28 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats.

You'll enjoy many standard comfort amenities, including tri-zone automatic climate control and a front center console with an armrest. This SUV also features standard Intelligent Access with push-button start. As you move up the model lineup, you'll find premium enhancements like ambient cabin LED lighting and ActiveX upholstery with contrast stitching. The Explorer can fit either six or seven passengers depending on whether you opt for a second-row bench or captain's chairs.

Driver Assistance and Safety

Every Explorer gives you the latest driver assistance tech. It comes with rear parking sensors, front automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, and many more safety features. Hands-free highway driving with Ford BlueCruise is now available for the Explorer. Higher trims add safety tech like adaptive headlights, front parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera.

Connectivity and Infotainment

The Explorer offers advanced connectivity across the lineup including a standard 5G Wi-Fi hotspot, four USB ports, a 12.3-inch driver info display, and a six-speaker stereo. The new Ford Digital Experience infotainment system incorporates wireless versions of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as built-in Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
